Final project
My Artist:
My artist that I chose was Randy Scott Slavin. He grew up in the Queens of New York City. He founded the New York City Drone Film Festival. He lives with his wife and kids in New York City. He studied lighting when he was a teenager. He started taking pictures in 2008-2009
Style:
This process he uses is called stitching. He takes one picture then uses Adobe Photoshop so it looks weird. It is a panorama type of view. I think he uses a distorting method in Adobe Photoshop. This is what I used to mimic his pictures. I think he also uses a different editing tool in a different software.
Philosophy:
He is giving us an alternate perspective on the images we see around us every day. He took pictures of Hurricane Sandy and the devastation that it caused. One of his galleries was taken when the hurricane hit the power grid and almost all of New York was dark and had no lights. He also takes aerial photos and he thinks that it shows the world from a different perspective
Influences:
I think that Randy Scott has taught me that you can take images that are just cool to look at. He “curves” the rules of photography a little. He takes pictures that look cool but don’t really quite have much meaning. I also like how the images are surreal. He also taught me how to take the theme of his pictures and add them to mine.
Compare and Contrast:
The pictures that I took were modeling the pictures from Randy Scott Slavin. I took one picture of Joshua Tree National Park in California. This will be related to the Big Sur picture. I like the way that you can see the mountains. Some differences with both of our pictures were that we took pictures of different environments. I took pictures in Ann Arbor and he took pictures in New York. The Joshua Tree picture relates to the Big Sur picture because they both are panoramas of the landscape. In the Empire State picture the buildings in it are much bigger than the Ann Arbor's buildings.
Personal Reflection:
For my images, I used a different strategy for my distortion. On his pictures his looks like there is no end. On mine there looks like there a panorama curved. In his pictures you can't see the point of distortion as for mine you can. It's a good thing I'm not a professional!! On my pictures I still tried to have similar environment such the "Big Sur" and the "Joshua Tree", they both are taken in a country environment. As for the "Ann Arbor" and the "Empire State" they are both in a city/urban environment. In conclusion there are many differences and many similarities of these 6 pictures.
